Kho Liang Ie (1927–1975) is considered a key figure in Dutch design: a functionalist with a poetic touch and an exceptional feel for material. His furniture for Artifort, among others, and his interior design for Schiphol are internationally renowned, but his name is less well known due to his early death. With in-depth research, new insights, and the most extensive – and colourful – visual material ever published, this survey book reveals the scope of Kho’s practice as never before: from experimental exhibition designs and innovative interiors to graphic design and iconic furniture designs. The publication will be released on the occasion of the exhibition Kho Liang Ie – Mid-Century Modernist at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, on view from 14 May to 18 October 2026.
